The book cover has several small bumps to the spine ends and corners. There is some rubbing wrinkling and wear to the spine joints and edges. The front cover has a square pictorial pastedown in mostly clean bright condition. There is some light rubbing to the pictorial pastedown. The text pages are clean and bright. There are three full page black & white photographs from the play. The front endpaper has an inked previous owner's name and date. "Frank Bacon (January 16, 1864 – November 19, 1922) , was an American character actor and playwright who after years of relative obscurity achieved great success as he entered the twilight of his career. The 1918 play Lightnin', which Bacon co-wrote and starred in, set a Broadway record for the day of 1,291 performances and was still going strong on tour after more than 700 shows when Bacon was forced to bow out due to fatigue. This is the true first edition of the novelization of the movie, illustrated with three black and white stills and the frontispiece showing scenes from the movie starring Rudy Vallee. This book is in Very Good+ condition and is lacking the dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. There is a slight rearward slant to the spine of the book and some light edge wear, rubbing and beginning fraying to the spine ends and corners. The text pages are mostly clean and bright, though there are several pages with small edge chips and some beginning foxing. "A Failure! "The Vagabond Lover is a 1929 American Pre-Code black-and-white, comedy-drama musical film about a small-town boy who finds fame and romance when he joins a dance band. The film was directed by Marshall Neilan, and is based on the novel of the same name, written by James Ashmore Creelman, who also wrote the screenplay. It was Rudy Vallee's first feature film, and also starred Sally Blane, Marie Dressler, and Charles Sellon. The film premièred in New York City on November 26, 1929, and was released wide on December 1. A DVD version was released on March 29, 2005. The Vagabond Lover is an early example of a vehicle created for a popular music star, in a style echoed by later films such as Jailhouse Rock with Elvis Presley and A Hard Day's Night with The Beatles." He wrote the 1922 silent screen adaptation of his own 1912 play Peg o' My Heart which starred Laurette. The 1933 sound remake starring Marion Davies was adapted from Manners' play as Manners had died in 1928. Manners also wrote two 1924 silent film screenplays which starred his wife in her only two other motion picture appearances, Happiness adapted from his play, and One Night in Rome.
